altRight now, the nation’s economy is in a general slump, more people have to pinch pennies, tighten purse strings, and live from paycheck to paycheck – but you would not know it in Colorado Springs, where the economy is extremely enviable are there are more opportunities for Colorado Springs employment that you could ever imagine.  There is a wealth of available jobs in Colorado Springs, and a high majority of them are in steady industries such as tourism which has been the mainstay of the city. 

According to the Colorado Labor and Employment department the Colorado Springs job market in 2007 had grown by just over one percent. This indicates a strong job growth amidst sluggish results for the country as a whole.  In early 2008 the job growth was 2.3 percent. This is put into perspective with a jobless rate topping 5%. In spite of this jobless rate which was due to layoffs in certain industries such as construction and manufacturing.

Some of the growth areas include retail, government, health care, tourism and the service industry in general.

The economy in Colorado Springs is supported by three main industries: the military, high tech businesses and companies, and tourism.  The recent presence of call centers for industries like insurance, support, and finances has created many opportunities for fantastic employment.  Defense is the city’s main industry however, and much Colorado Springs employment can be found in corporations like Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, ITT, L-3 Communications, Harris Corporation, Boeing, and General Dynamics.  Even now the industry is seeming some growth, where the growth of most industries in the United States are stagnating or, at best, holding steady at plateaus.  As a matter of fact, lots of employment in Colorado Springs can also be found in the housing market, especially as it pertains to the lender available housing sect, which is considered one of the highest in the United States.  In fact, the economy in Colorado Springs is growing at a much better rate than the nation as a whole.

As mentioned, there is also lots of Colorado Springs employment in the high tech industry, where jobs are plentiful.  Verizon Business has connections there, which presents lots of opportunity for steady employment in great jobs, especially considering how well Verizon is doing as a phone company, an Internet service provider, and a wireless carrier.  Computers in general offer a wide array of employment in Colorado Springs, as Hewlett Packard has associations there as well, as does Intel and Amtel.
